Filter Changes
Opportunities for residual income through service contracts
The lifespan of a filter in a POE filtration system depends on several factors, including the type of filter, the quality of water being filtered, and the amount of water being filtered.
Some general guidelines for filter exchanges are as follows:
- Sediment Filters: Change every 3 – 6 months. These filters bear the brunt of particulate matter and can clog faster, especially if the water supply carries a lot of sediment.
- Carbon Filters: Change every 12 months. The effectiveness of carbon filters diminishes over time as the carbon becomes saturated with contaminants.
- Reverse Osmosis Membranes: Change every 2 – 3 years. The membrane of the reverse osmosis system has a longer lifespan but requires periodic replacement to ensure optimal performance.
- Water Softener Resin: Generally, softener resin only needs to be changed every 5 – 10 years, depending on water usage and the compensated hardness of the water.
Changing filters and exchanging media at the recommended intervals is crucial for several reasons:
- Consistent Water Quality: Regular changes ensure that your water filtration system performs at its best, providing consistently clean and safe water.
- System Longevity: Keeping filters fresh prevents the system from working harder than necessary, which can lead to wear and tear over time.
- Cost Efficiency: While filter changes do cost money, they are far less costly than repairing or replacing a neglected system. An additional benefit is that efficient systems reduce water and energy consumption.
